Empal Gentong Rice Recipe

Ingredients for Fluffy Rice:

  • 2 cups Maknyuss Rice
  • 3 cups water

Ingredients for Empal Gentong Broth:

  • 500 g beef, diced
  • 10 shallots
  • 5 cloves garlic
  • 2 slices turmeric
  • 2 slices ginger
  • 5 candlenuts, roasted
  • ½ tbsp coriander
  • 1 nutmeg
  • 3 cardamoms
  • 2 cloves
  • ½ tbsp pepper
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 liter water
  • 1 liter coconut milk

Side Dishes:

  • Emping crackers
  • Chili powder

How to Make:

  1. Rinse Maknyuss Rice once, cook until done, then set aside.
  2. Boil the beef with water until tender.
  3. Sauté the blended spices, add them into the beef broth, then add the remaining aromatic ingredients and coconut milk. Cook until the flavor blends well and adjust the taste.
  4. Serve Maknyuss Fluffy Rice with Empal Gentong, emping crackers, and chili powder.
